Walking the path of righteousness

At this time of Lent we can reflect on what Jesus went through for us. As we reflect on the lengths Jesus went to, we can also think about our own journey with Christ. How many selfish plans are we holding on to? How many sinful ways which it is easier to keep practising than fight against? How often have we failed to pick up our own cross. Reflecting on these, I wrote this poem:

Stripped

Lord, let me be stripped

Dishonourably discharged

From this secular age

Whose treasures make me poor.

Lord, let me be stripped

And mocked and jeered at

For claiming Christ my own

And bowing at His throne

I have no other Lord.

Lord, let me be stripped

Of all the world counts as gain

Let me be considered insane

For exalting Jesus’s name

By those who don’t know you

And worship other gods.

Lord, let me be stripped

Back to my wick

And set me on fire

For you.
